ABOUT THE SUPIKS

Jeff & Shirley Supik, have been called twenty first century Station Masters. Since purchasing the Safe House in 1980, they have been teaching the history of the UGRR in this area and the part the house played in that history. What was once a secret, the Underground Railroad, and its great works spoken in a whisper, must now be shouted! It is a part of history that shows great courage, humanity and hope for a better tomorrow. The Supiks hope that when you see the symbol that is on the brick, it will remind you that people of diverse cultures, even in the worst of times, can come together for the good of all.

In January of 2006, Shirley Supik was the recipient of the prestigious Martin Luther King "Content of Character Award" presented by then Baltimore County Executive, Jim Smith.

The Supiks will continue to preserve the legacy of the Emmart Pierpont Safe House, the freedom seekers and the Underground Railroad. Every year since 2006, a Harriet Tubman Day of Remembrance has been celebrated  at the  Safe  House and will continue to be a yearly event. Although Harriet never used this Safe House, we honor her because no one did more on the Underground Railroad than she. Her courage is legend.
